Spring is here and as the TSF Executive we would like to bring a few things to your attention.
First of all, our next meeting will be held on Jun 19, 2025 at 6:30pm at the range. If anyone is interested in starting a silhouette league, please come to the meeting to discuss and help us set up a proper and CFO (Chief Firearms Officer) approved range.
Note: The reason the silhouette target stands were taken down was they did not comply with CFO requirements for the range recertification before December 31, 2024. We would like any interested parties to step forward and word towards restoring this utility to the range.
We had our spring cleanup on April 26, 2025 and a BIG Thank You to all those who came out to help. The clean-up brought a couple of issues to light:
There were unapproved steel stands, metal plates and other non-approved targets on the 600m range. Please do not build nor install these items because they are not approved by the CFO and have to be removed.
There were some broken whiskey bottles on one of the 50m ranges. All we can say, “why would someone do this, you know better”.
If you have ideas on how we can improve targets on the range facilities, please reach out to your Executive or come to our monthly meeting as indicated above.
If you have been to the range lately, you may have noticed some construction going on. We are building new bathroom block and multi-use building. The new building will replace the Atco trailer presently in use. Also, we have rebuit the berm on the 50m range, place new signs at entrance, sign in shed, and will be putting up no parking signs along the 600m road. This area is declared a “Fire Lane”. You may still use the path to unload and pickup your equipment, however must park in the parking lot when done.
We, as the Executive, are following CFO regulations for keeping our range certified and safe for everyone’s enjoyment.
Thank you for your help in keeping your range safe for everyone’s enjoyment. Have a great shooting season everyone.
From your TSF Executive Board.

Dear Taber Shooting Foundation,
As per your website request, the West Wind Silhouette Shooters are more than able to take on the responsibility of all Silhouette functions at the MD of Taber Sport Shooting Complex. We have been eagerly awaiting the response from the CFO for our range plan that does meet recertification requirements since early December 2024.
We are currently at the Metallic Silhouette National Championships in Cranbrook B.C. where we have 115+ competitors from across North America (25 from USA, 10 from Mexico). The Silhouette Rifle Association of Canada (SRAC), Alberta Metallic Silhouette Association (AMSA), and Alberta Federation of Shooting Sports (AFSS) are pushing for the West Wind Silhouette Shooters to host the Metallic Silhouette High power and Small bore National competition in 2026 at the M.D of Taber Shooting Complex.
We have been planning to do this over the last couple of years, with minimal success due to the lack of communication between the TSF and the West Wind Silhouette Shooters, with the past year placing a strain on those plans.
We are going into an AGM with the presented associations June 30 at this national match, and we need to plan a full year in advance for the next nationals. We require a response as soon as possible.
Regards,
Daxon Matthews – Vice-President of the West Wind Silhouette Shooters.
